Amazing sound quality at all levels
Whether you’re into classical, or something loud and rough, the NSF51’s handle the sound superbly. From deep, beefy bass up through middle to the treble, they’re all produced very well here (even without any running in – straight from the box). Guitar, voice, bass – all very well balanced.
Represents excellent value for money
At a fair bit under our £200 budget, the Yamaha floor speakers offer a lot of bang for your buck! What you’re getting and easily trump some of the more expensive speakers tested in the past, such as KEF, Sony and Tannoy’s offerings. The quality here also exceeds the current budget price tag, making them the best buy floor standing speakers in 2021.
Strong, well made cabinets
If, like us, you appreciate a well made speaker, you’ll appreciate the care and attention that’s gone into this pair. They’re definitely nice to look at and you can tell Yamaha know how to make a cabinet! All in all very good quality and a well made product. Can’t fault the build quality at all.
Perfect size for any size living room
They push out enough sound to cater for large rooms or halls but aren’t too overpowering for smaller setting either.
Don’t need a sub-woofer
The Yamaha floor speakers deliver a gorgeous, warm deep bass that definitely won’t need anything adding unless you’re living in a mansion. I mean the sound here is just perfect and doesn’t need a sub-woofer at all.
Verdict: Yamaha’s NSF51 are very easy to recommend. They’ve done a great job here and could easily have charged more for them. They sound fantastic and are great quality all-rounder speakers that even someone very geeky about their audio will appreciate.

#2 LTC Multicav 3-way floor speakers
Best budget floorstanders
Slashing our £200 budget more than in half, we found this pair of audio beauties at the bargain end of the scale. But don’t scroll past this – the LTCs punch way above their price tag and, although not able to compete with some higher prices alternatives, offer a hell of a sound at this price.
Great sound that doesn’t belong in a sub £100 pair of speakers
You’ll enjoy a seriously deep bass with the LTCs. They’re capable of dropping down to a rich 40Hz sound. The mid levels are clear, with zero distortion. For a cheap pair of floor standers, the Multicav speakers have a really solid range of sounds.
Appealing design
Taking off the grilles of the LTC’s reveals the silver cones that we think look fab. The black finish also looks the part and they’ll look fab in any living room or bedroom. Just be aware that the cones aren’t black and won’t be to everyone’s taste.
Work extremely well at lower volume
If you’re connecting these up to your home cinema or playing TV through them you’ll be surprised at how clear they sound at low volume. Spoken voices are nice and clear.
Decent build quality
While not having the weighty, high polish feel of some more expensive speakers, for the price the LTC floor speakers get the job done. They’re solid enough and, with the exception of a slightly flimsy looking speaker connection, offer good value for money and should last a long time.
Verdict: Don’t miss out on the LTC Multicav floor speakers. They might be cheap but they’re certainly not nasty. The quality is good, and the sound is way beyond what you’d expect at this price bracket.

#3 Auna Linie 501 Tower Floor Speakers
Great value for money
The quality and sound you get from the Auna Linie are impressive considering the price. You’re getting a 3 way floor speaker here, with a nifty 8″ bass driver that’s neatly around the side. There’s 2 x 10″ for your mid-range and a 1″ tweeter.
Excellent overall sound quality
With a decent level of bass, albeit perhaps not as much sub as we’d have liked, and very pleasing mid-range and top end, the Auna Linie is definitely punching above it’s weight in terms of sound quality. This would be a great set of floor-standers for a living room, conservatory or any room.
Good looking floor speakers
The slim design of these speakers makes them ideal for smaller rooms, although the sound from them is more than enough for larger spaces too. The Auna are available in white or walnut (although it is a veneer, and not actual walnut). And they really do look impressive, with or without their cover on.
High qality components
Turning the speakers around gives you a nice surprise as the connections are gold plated. This quality permeates this pair of budget floor speakers and the build is anything but cheap feeling.
Verdict: There’s a lot to like about the Auna Lini 501 floor speakers. They sound like more expensive speakers and show off some solid German craftsmanship. They’re definitely easy on the eye and are prefect for home cinema or listening to music. They’re easily among the best affordable floor standing speakers we’ve seen on test.

Drille ‘n’ Chill
Is it better with or without? One of those debates we’ll never hear the end of.
Some floor speakers allow the ‘grille’ – the meshed dark material at the front of the floor speaker to be removed. While the audio won’t be greatly impacted either way, it makes a striking difference to the appearance.
So which do you prepare? On or off? If it’s the latter, check you can remove the speaker grille.
Do they come with speaker cables?
There’s no dumb questions and it’s better to ask the awkward ones up front, rather than excitedly taking delivery of your new floor standers, only to find there’s no cables.
It’s not all about the biggest price
Think whopping down that massive wad of cash will net you the best speakers out there? While quality certainly is something to shoot for, the best floor standing speakers aren’t always the most expensive. Many happy users have found they can get better sound quality from cheaper tower speakers by doing a bit of research. Or just let us do that bit for you, my friend!
Am I getting the pair?
One thing that gets asked a LOT is ‘is this price for a pair of floor speakers?’ That’s either down to people missing it, or the retailer thinking it’s obvious and not making it clear enough in the description. Floor speakers GENERALLY come in pairs, but don’t be shy asking, if it’s not apparent.
Do they sound good at low AND high volume?
Whacking up the volume is all well and good, but what do the speakers sound like at normal (neighbor-friendly volume?) Not all floor standing speakers do keep their level of detail and sound quality with less volume.
Similarly, how do they sound with some power? Distortion and messy sound at higher volumes is not something you want.
It’s hard to make decisions on pictures and descriptions alone so do some research into this aspect before buying.
Lower frequency
Good quality floor speakers should be able to output a good range of sound. What’s a ‘range of sound?’ It’s a range of sound that the speaker can reproduce. It’s measured in Hz. It goes between 20Hz (DEEP BASS!) and 20 kHz (the squeekiest high pitch you could imagine).
A really good bass level a speaker ‘can go down to’ is 40Hz. If you can find floor speakers capable of this, you’ll enjoy some seriously DEEP BASS!
